Brett Jones is a performing percussionist, composer, and educator based in northern Wisconsin.  He has performed in solo and chamber music settings at venues around the world including recent performances in Iceland, Uganda, Brazil, and Ghana.  Holding degrees in music education and performance from the University of Colorado and Texas Tech University, Dr. Jones serves as Professor of Percussion at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.  His primary teachers include Doug Walter, Alan Shinn, Lisa Rogers, Don N. Parker, John R. Beck, and Gene Holter. 
 
Jones has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and presented at the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy, the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and the Wisconsin Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society’s Day of Percussion.  He has served as clinician and percussion specialist in music festivals and camps in Wisconsin, Texas, and Alaska, at the Festival Internacional de Inverno in Vale Venuto, Brazil, and at the International Folk Music Festival in Siglufjordur, Iceland.  Jones regularly performs with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Arrowhead Chorale, and as a featured performer for the Sanctus Sacred Music Recital Series of which he is a co-founder.  

Known for his contributions to the area of percussion pedagogy, Jones has recently written an open educational resource method book with a set of companion videos.  The method is entitled, Complete Snare Drum Method and will soon be available digitally through PressBooks.  His video tutorial series on playing small percussion instruments has garnered over 400,000 views on YouTube.  Jones’ pedagogical publications include articles in Percussive Notes, The Instrumentalist, and School Band and Orchestra Magazine.  As a composer and arranger, Jones’ works are available through C. Alan Publications, HoneyRock Publishing, and HaMaR Percussion Publications.  

Jones is the foremost expert on Robert Kreutz’s marimba music and his research is published in the Online Research Journal of the Percussive Arts Society.  He is the primary editor of the republication of Kreutz’s marimba works through HoneyRock Publishing.  Jones’ recordings include Earendel, a concertino for marimba and vibraphone that he commissioned Ian Deterling to compose, Quest, an album featuring the compositions of Ian Deterling for percussion and low brass, Star of the Sea, a release featuring original works for percussion, and a collection of Kreutz’s marimba music entitled Western Sketches.  Jones lives in northern Wisconsin with his wife, Meghan and their eight children.  He endorses Grover Pro Percussion and Salyers Percussion products.  Follow him online at brettjonespercussion.com and on YouTube at @brettjonespercussion.
